Kelly and Spencer reached out to me about their wedding after finding my profile on Instagram. As we were chatting back and forth about the two of them and their love story we discovered that we had all gone to MSU at the same time! We even have a few mutual friends in common which created an instant connection between the three of us.
My love for these two grew even more, however, when they booked me for their engagement session. They had dreamed of doing a sunrise session in Chicago, where they met and are currently living. After realizing that I would have to leave Michigan at three in the morning, they generously offered to let me stay with them in their new home; without ever having met in person. They were so sweet and accommodating! I instantly fell in love with their modern West Elm interior design and knew that their wedding was going to be beautiful. We spent the evening drinking wine and getting to know each other on a deeper level which made capturing their day all the more sweet.
Getting Ready
The wedding took place on a warm September day at the Bay Pointe Inn; an award-winning, waterfront venue in south Michigan. Kelly and her six bridesmaids got ready in the bridal suite of the venue. They wore matching red robes, while Kelly sported the cutest silk set in white. Once hair and makeup were done, we of course had to celebrate with a pop of champagne.
On the other side of the property, Spencer and his groomsmen hung out and shared a few beers as they patiently waited for the events to begin. Kelly's younger brother (one of the groomsmen) thought he was keeping up with the boys until his sixth beer when he realized he had been drinking non-alcoholic the whole time. A good laugh always helps to lighten the mood!
First Looks
The couple decided to forego a first look and stick to the traditional route. Instead, Kelly opted for a first look with her dad and brother Tommy, whom she is very close to. His reaction was so tender and emotional. They immediately embraced as he turned around and their dad stood to the side with tear-filled eyes. I made sure to capture a lot of photos of this special moment of the three of them!
Shortly after, with the help of her mom, Kelly made her way down to her bridesmaids who anxiously awaited the big reveal. As always, their reactions did not disappoint! The pure joy and excitement on their faces made evident their undying support and love for Kelly and her marriage to Spencer.
Bride & Groom
Kelly’s stunning satin wedding dress stole the show with its a-line silhouette, sweetheart neckline, and timeless design. Paired with Spencer’s dark green tuxedo jacket and black velvet shoes, these two looked amazing in their wedding attire. The beautiful landscaping at the Bay Pointe Inn offered so many gorgeous settings for sunset photos and bride and groom portraits.
Ceremony
The romantic outdoor ceremony was held on the grand lawn of the venue where a breathtaking white arbor stood as their backdrop. Live music played as guests began to take their seats and the bridal party started making their way down the aisle. Included in the lineup was their dog Gizmo, looking handsome as ever in his little doggy tuxedo!
Kelly was escorted by both of her parents in a sweet twist of tradition. A few speeches were given as the two stood hand-in-hand. They each read their vows before their pastor officially announced them, husband and wife. Happy tears and cheering commenced as the newlywed couple made their exit.
Bridal Party
I couldn’t have been more obsessed with Kelly’s choice of red velvet bridesmaid dresses. They were flattering on each girl and created a beautiful contrast against the landscape and traditional black groomsmen attire. They were such a fun bridal party (and extremely gorgeous, too!) After taking a few photos with the group, they each danced their way into the reception hall followed by Kelly and Spencer.
Reception
The reception tables were decorated in white linen, gold accents, candles, and greenery which created an overall ambiance of romance and luxury. There was even a designated vendor table with a glass of champagne waiting for each of us. It was so thoughtful and much appreciated!
The best man gave a hilarious speech recounting a Facebook incident with the groom’s grandma Irene. Apparently, she had commented on a group photo of Spencer and his friends (the best man included) and said “You’re the only handsome one.” He (the best man) had been saving that story for Spencer’s wedding to finally confront his grammy, Irene. Everyone busted up laughing, and luckily she took it like a champ.
After dinner, the cutting of the cake, and first dances, it was all party for the rest of the night. They had glow lights and a live band which really added to energy on the dancefloor. Kelly and Spencer's wedding was luxurious, elegant and a day I will not soon forget!
