Missy and Matt's wedding day at Shinola Hotel in Detroit was the epitome of elegance and luxury. They put together a beautiful celebration for their loved ones, showcasing their impeccable sense of style. The black, cream, and greenery color palette, along with the contemporary details, added to the sophistication of the day. Despite being mid-November in Michigan, the couple got lucky with the weather and were blessed with a mild and warm day. This, combined with the chic and modern venue, made for a truly relaxed and carefree celebration filled with good food, heartfelt moments, and a whole lot of fun. The day was a standout, showcasing the beautiful setting of Shinola Hotel and the couple's stylish taste.
Morning Details & Getting Ready
Missy and her bridesmaids started the day in style, wearing matching pajamas and sipping on coffee while the guys played cards and shared a few beers. The bride's bouquet, made up of peach and cream florals with greenery, added the perfect pop of color to her wedding day attire. You could feel the excitement radiating through everyone in the room and it was clear that it going to be an event to remember!
Emotional First Looks
The first looks were one of my favorite moments of the day. Seeing the bridesmaids' excitement on the rooftop was just the beginning of the emotional rollercoaster. The first look between the bride and her dad was incredibly emotional and touching. And finally, the bride and groom's first look down the long checkered hallway was a breathtaking moment of pure joy. They took advantage of that time to embrace the start of their forever.
Modern Conservatory Ceremony
The ceremony at the Shinola Hotel was a perfect blend of intimacy and elegance. Held in the Birdy Room with its modern architecture and glass conservatory walls, the winter sunset added a touch of moodiness to the already stunning atmosphere. The vaulted ceilings and warm light created an intimate and romantic vibe for Missy and Matt to exchange their vows. Surrounded by loved ones and a luxurious backdrop it was truly a privilege to capture.
Wedding Day Portraits
Shooting at Shinola Hotel is always a dream for me as a wedding photographer. This venue is just so elegantly stylish and perfectly located in the heart of Detroit. And on Missy and Matt's big day, we hit the jackpot with the weather. Mid-November in Michigan is usually pretty chilly, but we were blessed with a warm and mild day. It was such a relief to be able to step outside and take in the city views without having to cover up between shots. The day was made even more special by the fact that we were able to capture so many stunning backdrops in and around the hotel.
Reception
The reception, held in the elegant Bixby Hall, was a feast for the senses. Guests were treated to a delicious meal that included scallops, and other delectable dishes. The speeches were heartwarming, with the bride's father delivering an emotional tribute to the couple and all the people who have touched their lives and helped bring them to this moment.
After dinner, the couple spent some quality time with their guests before moving back to the Birdy Room for open dancing. The party really heated up as everyone hit the dance floor and let loose, celebrating love and friendship late into the night. The bridesmaids added an extra surprise for Missy towards the end of the night, running in on their "horses" to sing and dance around her, proving that this was a group that knew how to have a good time and wasn't afraid to be a little goofy. The reception was a perfect balance of good food, heartfelt moments, and a whole lot of fun.
